The Free Range Aussie

Hi, I’m Sharon
I’m a solo traveller currently exploring Australia in my 1970s camper trailer, Odyssey. She’s a bit of a fixer-upper — solid, quirky, and slowly being updated as I go. So far, we’ve travelled from Melbourne to Darwin, and that trip was a mix of heat, dust, small wins, and plenty of learning. Part of the fun.
Free Range Aussie is where I document the real side of travel — the stuff that doesn’t always make it into glossy blogs or curated social media posts. This isn’t about selling a dream or pretending it’s all sunsets and serenity. It’s about choosing to keep going, even when things are unpredictable or tough.
Why “Free Range”?
Because after raising my kids and watching my youngest finish school, I found myself with something I hadn’t had in a long time — time, space, and freedom. I also live with chronic illnesses, and while they shape how I travel, they’re not stopping me.
Being “free range” is about not being tied down anymore. It means I can make plans — or change them. I can take the slow road, skip the must-see sights, and stay an extra day somewhere that just feels right. It’s travel on my own terms.
