Why the Dune 4WD Deluxe Lounge Recliner is one of my must-have items on the road

The Chair I Didn’t Know I Needed

This wasn't planned. I picked it up mid-trip via Click & Collect at Anaconda Toowoomba because I couldn't handle another cross-country stint with nothing but a standard folding chair. I needed to lounge. It turned out to be one of my better on-the-road decisions.

It’s a Proper Recliner, Not Just a Fancy Camp Chair

If you're expecting a lightweight stool or something you can strap to a hiking pack, look elsewhere. This thing is bulky. It eats up boot space, although if you're set up next to your car or van for more than a night, it's worth every centimetre.

The features that actually matter:

  • Fully reclines (yes, fully)
  • Comes with a padded headrest that can be repositioned
  • Slide-out side table with a drink holder that actually fits a mug

I've napped in it more times than I care to count. On purpose.

Real-World Use: Where It Shines

I keep mine in the back of the car rather than packed into the camper. It's the first thing out at a one-night stop when I can't be bothered fully setting up camp. Swing it out, open it up, instant comfort.

It's sturdy enough for full recline without feeling like you'll tip, although it sits low enough to not tower over everyone else at camp. The side table slides under when not in use, which is smarter design than most camp furniture I've used.

When it's hot, I drag it into the shade, put my feet up, and stay put. It's also become my laptop spot on long trips, although the angle takes a little adjusting to.

What you need to know

Setup dimensions: Approx. 115 cm (H) x 66 cm (W) x 85 cm (D)

Folded size: Approx. 98 cm (L) x 66 cm (W) x 20 cm (D)

Weight: Around 12 kg

Weight rating: Up to 120 kg

The frame is powder-coated steel and the fabric is durable padded polyester. No, you won't be trekking this into the wilderness, although for roadside stops and camping, it's hard to beat.

What Could Be Better

It doesn't fold totally flat, so if you're short on space, that's something to factor in. The padded fabric collects dust and isn't the easiest to clean. I cover mine with a towel overnight if the wind is picking up.

The attached table is handy, although you do need to be mindful of it when folding the chair. Still, these are minor trade-offs for something I use daily.

Would I Recommend It?

If you're short on space or packing light, this isn't your first choice. Although if you have the room, especially in a camper or tow setup, it changes how you experience stops.

I use mine daily when I'm travelling. Whether I'm reading, dozing, or just soaking up the stillness, it's become one of those comfort things that turns a makeshift site into something that feels more like home.

I didn't think I needed a chair like this. I thought I was being indulgent. As it turns out, I was being practical.

Getting One

I picked mine up at Anaconda on discount and it's held up better than chairs I've paid more for.

Sign up to be a Club member if you're not already - it only takes a couple of minutes and provides access to decent discounts. Wait for a sale if you can, although even at full price, it's worth it if you have the space.
